Media Player won't open, not running as process in background

Whenever i attempt to open WMP nothing happens. monitoring the processes
while opening it i discovered that it was in fact opening for a split second
and then being terminated.
I tried the windows fix where you;
1. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
2. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.

But i need to do this every time i start windows. Is there no permanent
solution to this problem?

Wait, so that *does* temporarily fix it up? That would imply that either
your registry is corrupt or that something is actively resetting these
settings incorrectly. =\
