Ubuntu sucks

I downloaded the Ubuntu disk from the site Alias mentioned, burned it, and
rebooted. I was going to installed, but it changed my screen in Vista, and I
could get past the first screen where you enter your time zone.
I can set up mandrake linux with no problems. When I bought the Dell, I made
it to be Vista compatible.
I have good luck with it. Athlon 64 dual processer, Nvidia chip for
graphics. I recieved a Hauppauge HVR 1600 for Christmas. I use it to watch
and record TV program. It can get HDTV. Just need an antenna. Can't do that
with Linux.

I am running vista, xp and ubuntu on this pc with no problems..

Haha, yea reading Japanese isn't all that easy. I'm at the point where I
can hold a relatively simple conversation without too much trouble and
handle more complex conversations / topics in writing when exchanging e-
mails with friends in Japan. Though, reading still remains my primary
challenge as I still have lots of Kanji left to learn! =)

It is a lot of fun though, I do enjoy it. And, a very excellent way to
keep the sponge between the ears from collecting dust.

I'm a little confused about you saying it changed your screen in vista.
If you're going to install Ubuntu as a dual boot, you'd need to boot your
computer with the disk. Vista would not be running, so how would it
change a screen in Vista?

While I can't comment on the new Blueray or HD DVD disks, I don't even
own media on either or even hardware to play it with to begin with so I
have no experience there, recording TV programs under Linux is absolutely
possible.

Look up MythTV.

Matter of fact, for me, Vista is completely useless when it comes to
Multimedia. The reason is quite simply because I own DVDs from different
regions in the world and the software I used under XP to allow my
computer to play DVDs region-free is not supported under Vista. I suspect
that due to Vista's DRM technologies it will never be.

Of course you can. The Hauppauge comes up as /dev/video0. It
uses the bttv driver.

over the last year or so.
