Vista Lite?
Hello,

is it possible to lighten Windows Vista? I mean reducing it's
installation size? For example can i delete the Help files and
DriverStore folder. They take up a lot of GigaByte! I also found a
forlder named "winsxs" inside the Windows folder. It takes about 3.5
GB. Is it realy neccesary? Is there a tool which can do this vor me?

love

Well, I couldn't install the upgrade unless it was on top of an
existing system, and Vista seems to morph that system into something
called *.old when it is finished. The computer clean up wizard
suggested I could delete it. So if you run that wizard, it will tell
you what to do.

Usually defrag my hard drive before I clone the backup. Vista does
not give you a graphic interface of what is happening during defrag?
Also my clone had to be repaired by the installation disk once I
tested the backup.

To me it seems like the basics of computing needs are still lost in
the XML files at Microsoft? The Truth is Out There.

Why do you want to reduce the installation size?

When I was installling XP onto some older PIII Thinkpads and VAIOs I used
nLite to get rid of pointless stuff. There is a Vista version being
developed at the moment, but it is in the beta stage as far as I know.

Re: Vista Lite?
Do a google search for a product called vLite. It will let you clean things
up, and some haven't gotten the install size down to a CD.

Re: Vista Lite?
That's really not a good solution, you'd be better off just getting a larger
drive. One that suits your intended needs. Why?

That free space you create will quickly end up being used by program files,
temp directories, paging and hibernate files, files you create and store,
etc. Before long, you'll be back to where you started - looking for more
free space. By reducing Vista's footprint, you are only delaying the
inevitable.

Yes.

You need:
(Freeware)
To create an installation disc so everything is removed before
installation, VLite from www.vlite.net - now supports streamlining
drivers into the installation ISO.

Re: Vista Lite?
save it from what or for what.
hard drive cost is WAY WAY down these days.
300 gb drives for little over $100.
why worry about a few gb's.
