Audio not working in Windows Live Messenger

I recently purchased a laptop with a built in webcam and microphone. Each
work fine but when I use Windows Live Messenger, my friend and I can see each
other, but we can't hear each other. My laptop has Windows Vista. Can
anyone help?

Make sure per app volume is not turned down for Windows Live Messenger.
Click the Volume icon in the Notification area > click Mixer make that
Windows Live Messenger is not muted or turned down.
