Recent documents not listing on start menu
If I click on the start button and go to 'Documents' my Vista is not
showing any documents I have recently opened.

It seems like I have turned it off but I don't know how!

How can I get it to work again?

Any help appreciated.

Re: Recent documents not listing on start menu
Right-click on the start button > properties > Start Menu tab > check the
box saying 'Store and display a list of recentley opened files.

The documents link on the right-hand side of your start menu is just a
shortcut to your documents folder. After enabling the recent files option it
will show as 'Recent Items on your start menu.

In case the recent documents are disabled through group policy and you have Vista Home Basic or Home Premium, this blog post may provide some information. The Home editions of Vista don't have gpedit.msc, which is used to edit group policy, but some settings (like recent documents) might be set in group policy, preventing you from turning on recent documents at all.

I had the same problem on my brand new laptop with Vista Premium pre-installed. I searched a few forums for the answer and I have just resolved it. To resolve this you should edit the Registry (regedit.exe). Be very careful and seek assistance if you are unsure how to do this. Within HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies, if there is not one, create a new registry Key and call it Explorer. Do this by right-clicking on the Policies key and selecting New, Key. Then highlight Explorer and select New, DWORD. Call this new DWORD
ClearRecent DocsOnExit and set the value to 0. Reboot your machine, open a few docs, reboot again and they will all be listed within Recent items. However if there is already an Explorer key within Policies, just ensure the value of ClearRecent DocsOnExit is set to 0.
