Vista RTM Backup failed.

Hi all,

I am trying to do a complete PC backup using Vista Backup and Restore center
but it is failing with the following event viewer message (event id 521) :

Backup started at '06/12/2006 03:52:20' failed as Volume Shadow copy
operation failed for backup volumes with following error code '2147942405'.
Please rerun backup once issue is resolved.

Has anyone been through this ? By the way, I am trying to backup to another
disk on my computer.

Control Panel=Admistrative Tools=Services
Double click "Background Intelligent Transfer Service and click "Restart".

I tried to restart BITS but the problem persists. Any other sugestions ?

I'm having the same problem when attempting to use an external USB hard
drive. I get to the end, it starts to try to "create shadow copies" for
reasons I don't understand. Than it fails with RPC service unavaialble"
message. My sense is the backup occured, and it fails during this addional
step. Has anyone seen anyting about this?

I am having the smae problem with Vista backup. I am trying to back up to
another computer on my network and it keeps coming back accessed denied. But
there is access to it. Also I system restore fails.

I've run out or rope calling dell to see if htey can help me with this issue,
so now I'm chatting witn Microsoft.

Renato, what type of PC do you have, and what software are you running? Just
trying to see if there are any similarities generating the same error message.

I am using a dell XPS 4100 with 2 gig of memory.
Applications include Nikon Capture NX, Photoshop elements 5.0, norton
Internet 2007, Huey, some Dell background applications, and microsoft office
2003.
