Windows Vista (need help fast!!!!!!)
Windows Vista found an update in my current video driver as well as some
mandatory updates. So i installed them, truns out Vista found the wrong video
drive update. After all mandatory updates it needs a reboot to confiure. So
now my screen wont work. I tried to boot into safe mode, however, safe mode
locks up after crcdisk.sys. The best part is that I cant seem to find my
vista disk. I tried to call microsoft, but all they told me is that i need my
activation key, which is on thecomputer and on the disk case. So i am out of
luck. Then she said it will cost my $59 to try and fix something that vista
did on its own. I am getting ready to buy apple or convert to lunix. Can
anyone help me? I have alot of important documents on this computer that i
cant remake. Thanks for the help to anyone who can!

Re: Windows Vista (need help fast!!!!!!)
Greg;
Reboot and this time instead of Safe Mode, select "Last Know Good
configuration".
Then go to Device Manager and roll back the driver:
Right click "Computer" and click "Properties"
Click "Device Manager"
Click "+" by "Display Adapters"
Double click your video card
Click "Driver" tab
Click the "Roll back driver" button.
Follow prompts and reboot.

In the future do not get driver updates from Microsoft Update.
Instead get them directly from the hardware manufacturers
manufacturers website.

You had best find that install disc or disk so that you can roll back. You
don't let MS update drivers is the bottom line. If drivers are to be updated
for a piece of equipment, you go to the vendor to get them and do the
update.

The important thing is the data files you don't have copies of so if all
else fails do NOT reinstall anything, cheaper to buy a new hard drive
these days and then install a new copy of "Something" on that and use it
to locate and copy you important files.

When the thing is booting do you get any other options (F8 maybe) that
allow you to uninstall bad drivers? Seems to me you sometimes get this
option, sometimes not, don't know why.

For future reference, Video drivers are best installed on their own, not
from MS Update and you probably need to remove older versions first...
Uninstall old version with control panel, disable security and
anti-virus software so it does not start when Windows starts, reboot,
then install new drivers which you have previously downloaded from the
card maker's website and saved on your desktop. Of course you didn't
know that before and it's no use to you now but may be useful next time.
Unless you want to take risks for testing purposes like some of us do
ALWAYS install drivers on their own for Video, if you lose the screen
well, you know now.

Consider the cheap hard drive option, if you can find someone with
Acronis software you can make a backup copy of the whole thing using
their CD based recovery tool, and then you can start trying to recover
the system using something like the Vista CD and the repair option... of
course you said you don't have the CD but I'm hoping you find it as it
may be your best and perhaps only option to recover.

Then why does M$ push their crappy hardware drivers on users when the
manufacturers' drivers are always the better option? Is MickeyMouse this
stupid? I guess so.

To the OP, when you're ready to dump Vista - MickeyMouse's Toy Operating
System, do take a look at Ubuntu.

Cheers.

PS. Frank, it's only a suggestion. Don't get your rectum in a knot and do
ready my sig for extra help.

Who said they do? Why does a cross-dressing linux loser like you even care?

Is MickeyMouse this

MickeyMouse is a Disney® character. I guess you're too stupid to realize
that fact.

I guess so.

It appears that you are the fukkin stupid one.

If he can't get to Safe Mode, you are wasting his time telling him to try
Last Known good configuration!!!

Re: Windows Vista (need help fast!!!!!!)
Not always and it may still be a viable option.
In fact it may be good that the OP was unable to get to Safe Mode.
Getting to Safe Mode is then the Last Known Good configuration so
doing so eliminates that as an option if Safe Mode is used first..
