Henry--
You can mark messages to "watch" by color and by flag. You can mark the
message to watch by going Tools>Messages>Watch conversation or you can put a
flag by them. You can choose the color to use by going on the Win
Mail/Vista or OE/XP interface by going to Tools>Options>Send tab and choose
from 14 lovely vibrant colors.
Try the Fuscia to liven up the water cooler talk in your office or brighten
up your home on those dreary Winter days unless you're in Australia or
somewhere it's summer now.
I find it useful to mark topics of interest or topics where I want to see
the answers that will come to see what I can learn.
You also can mark messages as read by right clicking a particular message
and clicking "Mark as Read" on the right click context menu.
You can further tweak and sculpt your rules by going Tools>Messages>Rules
and more on this is in Win Mail Help and on sites like
www.tomsterdam.com
and the MVP OE sites like:
