Why won't my screensaver come on

I have my screensaver set to come on after 5 mins. It won't ever come on at
all. I have tried changing the amount of time and the actual screensaver
used, but this does not help me as seen in recent posts.

Does it work when you click on Preview?
Is this on a laptop?
Do you have a wireless mouse?

Did you install a critical update from
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/vistaupdate before proceeding with
installation.
This update provides stability improvements to the USB stack under Vista x86
and x64 for Microsoft keyboard and Mice.
