SP1 testing
Has anyone heard anything regarding how the initial testing is going for SP1?
It would be nice to hear from Microsoft as to how it is progressing.

Has anyone heard when this will be released to technet. Hell; most of us are
professionals and can handle any issues that may crop up.

Why is this such a closed mouth subject with Microsoft? There are a lot of
rough edges in Vista; and I do not think that any of the patches released so
far have really improved it that much. I like a lot of what Vista has to
offer; however Microsofts claim to not wait for SP1 for deployment is pure
crap. I would never get any sleep if this was allowed for my user base. We
have downgraded all vista installations to XP since this OS release.

I have tested this OS on many hardware combinations and not one has worked
well enough to even consider a roll out.

Just my 25 cents; You know inflation and all

Re: SP1 testing
Microsoft is always striving to improve the quality of their products.
Windows Update is one of the great examples of this effort, since its
implementation, Microsoft has continually improved the service to deliver
improved experience for Windows, software and hardware devices. Windows
Vista SP1 is currently in testing as of this writing. It is expected to be
released sometime in the first quarter of 2008.

You can apply for the beta at http://connect.microsoft.com its not
guaranteed you will get in, its closed to the general public and is a
managed beta. If you own an MSDN Subscription you will be able to get access
to the beta at a later date.

People who are testing SP1 are under a NDA and can not talk about it.

Re: SP1 testing
Hi Richard
Yes NDA's apply but not for Microsoft as a company. Any thoughts as to why
they are not talking about it. It would really be nice to see something from
them.

Hi Andre
I tried sometime ago but it is not an available connection as far as I can
tell.

Thanks all
Mike

Good Luck Getting An Answer From Microsoft On That Question, Everyone
Who Is Involved In The Windows Vista Service Pack One Testing Are Under
An NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement), Just FYI. A Few Month's Ago There Was
An Announcement On The Microsoft Tech Net Website Promising Microsoft
Tech Net Subscriber's First Public Access To Service Pack One (That
Announcement Has Since Been Deleted From The Tech Net Website), Just
FYI. A Few Weeks Ago A Similar Announcement Appeared On The MSDN Website
Once Again Promising MSDN Subscriber's First Public Access Tp Service
Pack One (That Announcement Has Also Been Deleted From The MSDN
Website), Just FYI. Last Week, There Was An Announcement That
Microsoft's CIO Had Been Fired For Providing Incorrect Information To
The News Media, And To Microsoft Customer's, Just FYI.

All Of This Misinformation Makes Me Very Angry At Microsoft That They
Can Not Even Answer A Very Simple Question, As To When Us MSDN And
Microsoft Tech Net Subscriber's Will Get Access To Service Pack One For
Windows Vista, Just FYI. So, In The Mean Time, I Am Boycotting Microsoft
Software, And Have Converted Over To Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW,
Just FYI. The Boycott Will Continue Until Microsoft Answer's A Very
Simple Question, As To When Us MSDN And Microsoft Tech Net Subscriber's
Will Get That First Public Access To Service Pack One, That We Were
Promised A Couple Of Month's Ago, Per Microsoft's Previous
Announcement's On The MSDN And Microsoft Tech Net Website's, Just FYI.

All beta testers and MVP have to sign Non Disclosure Agreements prior to
being issued with beta software. Because of this legally binding agreement we
are not at liberty to discuss how the beta tests are progressing.

Re: SP1 testing

Mike chances are you need hardware upgrades if you can't deploy vista at
your business. I have setup severl business networks and VPNs with Vista
Home premium and business editions and had no issues that were not
easily reconciled and explained to the operators of the business so that
they could handle it. But if you have one of some of these techs from
like say dell come out to set you up be prepared for them to tellyou it
can't be done. I have had to mop up after dell on 2 crazy occasions. I
was very surprised to find out their field techs were that untrained.
