When you invoke "Backup Status and Configuration", you will see that there
is an option to "Back up now" -- perhaps that would meet your need for a
manual backup?
I have found that, in general, I do not need to be able to back up
individual files. I have it set up to run automatically once per week to an
external hard drive and it works fine, with minimal attention from me. On
those occasions when I do want to back up an individual file, I have used a
tool called SyncToy:
