Office 2007 Outlook backup.pst to Outlook 2002 SP3
Backward Compatibility Issue
Office 2007 Outlook backup.pst to Outlook 97-2002.

I cannot import my Office Outlook 2007 backup.pst from my new Vista pc to an
older machine at the office running Office Outlook 97-2002. Per help, I went
to Data Management Information and added a new folder named Outlook 97-2002
Personal Folders.pst to the default Outlook folder and copied my Contacts
from Outlook 2007 Personal Folders to Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders.
Next, I made a backup.pst.

Every time I try to import the file to my office computer, I receive the
following message:

"The file E:Archive\Outlook Contacts\backup.pst is not compatible with this
version of the Personal Folders information service. Contact your
administrator.
The .pst file is the same as in previous versions and is compatible with
Outlook 2000, 98, and 97."

Please advise!

Re: Office 2007 Outlook backup.pst to Outlook 2002 SP3
This probably won't help at this point but... I have Outlook 2007 and 2003
on my system. The system can dual boot eithr XP or Vista. What I did is
take my very old .pst file and point both Outlook programs to that file as
the default data file. Works like a charm as I can open that .pst file in
either OS as well as send and receive email through the account. Also the
two OS's use the same contacts and calendar.

Re: Office 2007 Outlook backup.pst to Outlook 2002 SP3
Hi Len,

Thank-you for your feedback! I've been considering testing as to
whether I could substitute the 2007 Outlook.pst over to the 2002 Outlook.pst
by copying and pasting the one on top of the other, however I felt that it
might not take. Now, what your telling me brings hope. I'll give it a try!
I've been out-of-town on business, but now that I've returned I will continue
my attack on this issue. I'm exceedingly disappointed that I continually
have to discover solutions to vexing issues that should be as simple as a
mouse click. Thanks-again! Dave

Re: Office 2007 Outlook backup.pst to Outlook 2002 SP3
Go to Control Panel > Mail
In the Mail Setup dialog, click the Data Files button
In the Account settings dialog, click the Data Files tab, then click Add
In the New Outlook data file dialog, you will be given a choice of the type
of data file you want to create. - Select
"Outlook 97-2002 personal folders file .pst" as the new data file type.
Once the .pst has been created, open it in Outlook and copy whatever you
want to it as you did before.
That new data file will now be accessible from both Outlook 2007 & earlier
versions (Outlook 97 through Outlook 2002).

Re: Office 2007 Outlook backup.pst to Outlook 2002 SP3
Problem solved, although it took some resourcefulness built on all of your
suggestions. I actually had to open my Vista "C" drive to sharing. Log into
my Windows XP-SP3 machine and add an Outlook 97-2002 personal folder, which I
immediatley replaced with the Vista generated Outlook.pst folder under
Outlook 97-2002, then backup to USB. Took to my office computer. Tried to
Import with same error. Finally, pasted a copy that I had brought along of
the Outlook.pst folder over the one at the office and it finally recovered my
Contacts. It's these kind of hassles that are dramatically increasing
Apple's market share! Two weeks of effort just to recover one's contacts.
Incredible!

pst files
To make use of your pst files when you keep getting a incompatible error when importing into previous versions of outlook; here's what to do.

Microsoft now offer a 60 day tial for office.

Download the trial from their website. Import the pst file into outlook trial edition. Then download tunderbird from Mozilla Mozilla Thunderbird in English | Mozilla Europe

Thunderbird is a free email client. After installing thunderbird, click no to making it the default client, and it will then automatically install all your emails from the outlook 60 day trial program.

Thunderbird is free and enables your emails to be imported easily into other email clients.

outlook 03 to outlook 02 pst.
All:

I have done exactly on what this forum has stated although i am trying to recapture my emails/contact from outlook 03 and go back to outlook 02. I created the 97-02 compatible pst format, copy/paste all my data in, exported the data to a pst, then try to import to 02 and i always get the same error, contact system administrator, files not compatible.

Any additional advice? I will even call someone if they can help me through this, anywhere in North America.

please help, i got layed off yesterday and all my 1000's of emails were on my work computer that i desperately need to get on my home computer.

Troy
