Ah, the joys of Office 2007. You have to save the document as a Word
03/XP/00 document so that the extension is .doc and not .docx. The .docx
extension can only be read by 07 or if the people you have sent the
document to have downloaded the .docx reader. Another case of MS fixing
something that ain't broke.

Or you could say it's another case of MS providing a path to new
functions and methods that are not supported in the older formats. It
was also very nice of them to provide a conversion tool that allows the
older Office product to read/edit the newer format.

"Nice"? No, obligatory, although one would wonder if the conversion tool
will work with OO or if one has to pay for Office in order to be able to
read docs sent by Office 07.

You know where the MS website is - do your own homework.

Why do you care if it works with OO, OO has problems with Office formats
anyway.

MS does not have to justify itself to you, and certainly if you don't
like the product you don't have to use it - heck, you were complaining
about Vista and you didn't even have a copy of it.

I would guess that you don't even have a copy of Office 2007 to verify
what you write about it.

I can read pre 07 .docs without any problems.

Tell that to the OP who cares. Oh, I forgot, you don't care what the OP
is going through and only care about oneupmanship. This is a problem
world wide, not just with me and the OP.

heck, you were complaining
> about Vista and you didn't even have a copy of it.

I do have a copy of Vista. I installed it, played with it for a week and
then formatted the disk and installed XP, not that Vista is relevant to
this conversation.. Want to buy a copy of Ultimate in Spanish?

I wouldn't buy 07 if I were drunk and just won the Power Ball. Whether I
have it or not is not relevant. I have received .docx files and had to
request that the sender save the document in a .doc format so I could
read it so, obviously, I don't need 07 to verify that .docx docs will
not work with pre 07 Office, ABIWord or OO.

I see you're back to attack mode.

I'm running Office 2007 on this system, but I'm not doing your work. You
can continue to make yourself look like an a$$ by not looking about what
you are complaining about or you can take the time to research what you
don't know.

No, you can read SOME documents with minimal formatting without
problems.

No, I care about it a lot, as we have many clients that still have
Office XP or Office 2003 and are "dealing" with the idiots that send in
Office 2007 native format. I was addressing your negative BS posts and
how misleading it is.

But, you admitted when you bought it in, and that was well after you
have been complaining for months about it.

DOCX works fine with Office 2003 with the FREE utility that allows
Office 2003 to read/edif/write Office 2007 format. As for ABI/OO, who
cares, they are non-standard formats also.

Actually '97-2003' format and Word can be set to save with that as the
default.

I can read all the docs I have received since 97. I cannot read a .docx
file no matter how it's formatted.

The people who use them care, of course.
