Defects found in Vista Ultimate
I upgraded a PC from WindowsXP to the Windows Vista Ultimate production
release that was recently posted on the MSDN Web site. I have encountered
the following defects...
1. iTunes 7.02.16 - I get a message telling me that my PC must be activated
to play music I had previously purchased. I log into my iTunes account,
activate the song, and then I get the same message that my PC activated all
over again. I am also unable to download new songs.
2. Motorola Q Phone - After upgrade the device driver no longer works for
tethering the phone. Also, I must disable the Windows firewall software to
sync the phone through the Windows Mobile Device Center.
3. Aero - My computer meets the Aero requirements; however it is not
enabled. I think it is related to Vista treating my display and video card
as a generic device. I am running Vista on a Dell Inspiron 700m.
4. During the Vista upgrade my screen went to black for about an hour, while
some upgrade procedures seemingly went on in the background. The upgrade
completed fine, but that will really throw off the normal user during the
upgrade.
5. IE 7 does not work with web based Outlook. I can read messages, but
cannot send out messages.

Not a Vista defect, this is an Itunes issue. Apple needs to update Itunes
to be Vista compatible.

Not a Vista defect, again you need an update of the Motorola software.

You need the correct driver. Not a Vista defect either, contact your video
card manufacturer.

Could be a Vista defect, could be related to your video card problem above.

Sounds like an IE 7 issue, not Vista.

RE: Defects found in Vista Ultimate
I'm stunned at the number of people openly using their MSDN licensed Vista
for production work. The MSDN license is for testing development work.
Examples of inappropriate use specifically outlined on the MSDN site include
Internet surfing and checking personal or business email and even actual
development directly on the MSDN licensed OS.
Unless, of course, you're writing add ons for iTunes, Outlook Web Access,
and Motorola Q phones.

Re: Defects found in Vista Ultimate
Why are you so stunned? Are you going to bust the door down and place them all under arrest? Are you going to snitch on them to Microsoft. I don't care one bit if their agreement was only for development, demonstration and testing. It is none of my business what they do with it.

Apple's problem, their software is not compatible.

Same thing, it's not a Windows issue, it's an issue that needs to be
addressed by Motorola.

What are your system specifications? Video card type and system memory?

This simply happens sometimes, usually due to - guess what? - issues with
the display driver. Your system may not be as compatible as you think, and
this may require a BIOS update.

This is not an IE7 issue as much as it is an exchange server issue. There is
a patch that needs to be applied by the administrator:

Re: Defects found in Vista Ultimate
With regards to #4, was the monitor on a DVI or VGA connector? If on the
DVI I saw that one myself during beta. Since I had a dual monitor setup I
was aware that midway through installation (the second reboot or so) the
system defaults to the VGA connector on some cards. I my case I simply saw
the Please Wait screen shift from monitor 2 to monitor 1. On a single
monitor system that might just mean a black screen. With that said XP does
the same thing on some cards during installation.

Re: Defects found in Vista Ultimate
How do you know they are doing that? I am using my MSDN copy on my test
box. But this is not my test box. Even if it was, I could still read my
newsgroups while compiling or running tests.

Re: Defects found in Vista Ultimate
You will get much better results if you perform a Custom Install instead of
a Clean Install, Just FYI.
P.S. I am using my MSDN Copy of RTM for Software Compatibility Testing (and
have already noticed problems with Windows Mail 6.0.6000.16386, Windows Live
Messenger 8.1 Beta, Windows Live Mail Desktop Beta, and Windows Media Player
11.0.6000.6324, it will be only a matter of time before I find some problem
with IE 7.0.6000.16386 as well), Just FYI.

You worry too much
After the company has done with consumer, it will go after MSDN members
Oooops, you are using non-testing purpose of applications - reduced
