where is Windows Update download cache?

Hi,
because my Internet bandwidth is limited I want to burn updates to a CD and
use it to update other installations of vista.

Questions:
Where is the windows update cache folder?
Does windows update delete cache after installation? if yes how can prevent
this?
does the updates are applyable to other editions of vista? if no, how can I
tell?

Adding to your query, I'd like to know how to download the updates from the
old Win98 Update Catalog (Administrator's Tools I think it's now called in
XP). I've searched and can't find it anywhere.
