Another one that isn't relevant in most cases. Unless you're doing
something very odd, you shouldn't need to sit in front of the computer
while it shuts down, just click the "shut down" and walk away.
Reboots are another story, but that's where the "very odd" comes into
play -- If you're rebooting with any frequency at all, you might find it
more productive to figure out why you're rebooting and adjust that
behaviour then to worry about shutdown times.
There are a few things you can do to improve shutdown times, but I've
never had much success personally.
