BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH
Without actually doing anything special or installing anything new- I have
received the blue screen of death in Windows Vista Ultimate - error message
says APC_INDEX_MISMATCH. I have no idea why it crashes but has done so about
a dozen times. Any suggestions?

It means it's time to reformat and iinstall XP or so, or some other OS.
Vista is not the way to go if you care about your computing privacy,
freedom and generally want to get the most out of your computer. Vista
will just hold your computer's potential back.

I did a Google on your error and came up with a lot of links basically
saying the same thing, that this is a kernel error. That isn't much help
to you unfortunately. Are you quite sure you've changed nothing? Didn't
update any drivers?

This link, although it references Vista 64, has the most useful
information of all of the links I looked at.

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-hardwa...creens-pc.html

If you really haven't changed anything, then perhaps this is a hardware
failure. Here are some general hardware troubleshooting steps (and I
would start with the RAM):

Without knowing anything about your computer or even whether you have
Vista 64 or 32, that's about all I can say.

Re: BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH
This is a call on the Kernel. You did change something or you added something that is a mismatch .

I have seen this error before when a program was added that was not designed and written for the Windows OS.

Did you add any software or anything to your system lately.

One suggestion would be to try Linux instead. Been running on four home
computers for over five years and never had a crash yet.

This user has a problem.
It can not be solved by people just coming here trying to make
proselytes.

Re: BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH
This is a windows newsgroup....leave the linux crap and bashing at the door.
Vista is fine just remember that it’s a new os with issues to arise and they
will eventually be fixed. And to the linux fags out there bashing, linux
isnt any better. Maybe you should read the linux kernel rewrite newsgroups
theres 4,000 issues on the current kernel mostly with driver development and
hardware support.
Collaboration with MS and open drivers is growing, fools like the ones
posting say to ditch windows wont be crying the same tune in the next 4yrs.
Renee to inspect the errors do some research and submit the memory dumps
,and minidumps using errorreport the more ppl use these tools available
windows will progress.

Linux Troll
So if a user has a problem with Vista, your solution is to ditch Vista and
install an inferior OS like Linux? Give me a break. Why would the OP want
a TOY OS that geeks use so they can squak to their friends that they use
Linux?

The OP probably wants to get some real work done and needs a solution to
their problem.

Try updating the system drivers first. Make sure your video, sound, and
motherboard drivers are up to date. If the drivers are up to date,
reinstall the OS from scratch and try again.

Forget Linux - It's a Geeks Toy.

Your ignorance is showing. For some types of work Linux is superior to
Vista. That the fanboy crowd doesn't "get it" isn't surprising. They
don't "get" most things. <snicker>

That sounds like a oxymoron. If geeks are computer nerds, that
suggests they would use a more powerful and more capable OS, so why do
you think Linux is a toy?

One of the fundamental complaints from more experienced users is
Windows has gotten worse over the years in that there is layer upon
layer of unasked for and unneeded eye candy and bells and whistles
that only serves to slow Windows down. Classic examples would be UAC,
DRM and the totally screwed up file system which in Vista is slower
than ever if you use the Explorer shell.

My biggest source of amusement comes from reading posts here seeing
all the dopes that cackle aimlessly and obviously don't have a clue
what they cackling about and are too up tight to learn.
