Civilization IV once again

I tried to install patch_174 again. No results. System says - can not run I
can not find D3DX9.32.DLL. What doest it mean and what can I do?

Try installing DirectX.

It means that Microsoft, in their great wisdom, left out that file from DX9
on Vista. You just have to install DX9 to put it back.

Yeah, if you never installed a DirectX 9 game, you have to install DirectX.
For some silly reason Vista only ships with DirectX 10, and not DirectX 2,
3, 5, 6, 7, or 9.

Of course Windows XP doesn't come with DirectX either. /shrug.
