Vista and Combat Flight Simulator 3
There is something very clever going on in this OS. CFS3 on this hardware
under XP ran at perhaps 30fps but with some stuttering. Under Vista it is
60fps+ with everything maxed and smooth as a babies bottom. If anyone has
this sim gathering dust in a cupboard it is well worth dusting off and
trying again.

Re: Vista and Combat Flight Simulator 3
That seems pretty amazing, especially, since up until the release of the 7.3
drivers, Vista always ran slower than XP. even then it's only 3 fps faster
than XP in fear and they would be tied, if I took XP back to the 7.1
drivers. Vista getting double the fps over XP, makes me wonder if you have
something wrong wit XP.

I think I'll get my friend to mail me his old CD if he's got it.

Re: Vista and Combat Flight Simulator 3
Hi Dale,
I have to admit I had lots of bloat on the XP install and there are things
like Oracle 10g that sucked up RAM which I have not re-installed after the
clean Vista install (I need to work with SQL Server at the moment). Also,
Flight Simulator X runs about the same as it did under XP, 25 - 29fps with
lots of the good stuff switched off. However Romw Total War is also faster,
much faster on loading but gameplay is the same.

Kind Regards,

Wayne

does not start...
Can you help?

RE: Vista and Combat Flight Simulator 3
Hi Alex - did you ever get an answer to your question? I am considering
buying CFS 3 and I want to know how it'll work with Vista.

As a lay non comp kind of person it seems logical to me that a Microsoft
game should work with a microsoft system. That is if they want to maximize
their sales!

I think the answer to what you seek is right below at the very bottom.

RE: Vista and Combat Flight Simulator 3
Hi Wayne, I have a new laptop HP 9000 w/vista and I am able to run MS Combat
Flight Simulator 3 OK, but is crashes after 5 minutes. MS game works has a
fix, asking me to re-configure my boot [for a limited boot] each time I play
the game. When I do this I can play for 20 minutes and then it crashes.
Very frustrating. I tried turning off everything on the computer when
playing but it makes no differance. Does anyone have an idea how to fix the
crashing?? Thanks

Sam,

Not many people scroll back to message threads over 1 week old, let alone 1
month old. The original message in this thread was posted on 10/17/07, Not
many people are going to read this response. It's best to post a new message
if you have a question in Usenet, ok?

As for your question...

What kind of crashing? Is there a message? Is your notebook getting "really"
hot? Are you running with all the updates for the game as well as your video
and audio card? Specifically which model notebook do you have? if you flip
over the notebook on a white sticker near a barcode you should see something
like...

dv9324nr

Which would make your model a DV9324, the dv9000 you see on the mointor is
the class/size of the notebook, the specific model number we can view at
http://www.hp.com and see if there's any issue with your hardware.

Update everything, try right-clicking on the game icon and choose "Run as
Administrator..." If that doesn't help right-click again, choose Properties,
go to Compatibility Tab, Check the first box to enable XP mode, press OK and
try the game again.

Let us know,
A.

Re: Vista and Combat Flight Simulator 3
Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3: Crashing Problem
(This has occurred since I got my new computer. The CFS3 still works fine on
my old windows 98 system.)

My Computer is a HP Pavilion dv9205us Notebook PC, running Vista.

To minimize crashing I have been booting my computer with loading system
services only. This usually gives me 20 Minutes of play before crashing. I
always run the program as an administrator and I have enabled XP in the
properties compatibility box.

The game works great for anywhere from 5 minutes to 60 minutes. Then the
game freezes and the desktop appears with a dialogue box appears saying
“Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 3 has stopped working. Windows is
collecting information about the problem.” After a few minutes another
dialogue box appears saying: “A problem caused the program to stop working
correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is
available.”

This has been going on for 6 months. Does anyone have any suggestions for
me to try?

Re: Vista and Combat Flight Simulator 3

Well hey, I'm new and I just want some help. My friend gave me the game
and I tried to install it. The only problem is that when it gets to 40%
it freezes. On compact installation, it freezes on 72%. When it's
frozen, I have checked the task manager and it says it running. Please
help! I want to play!
