SP1 breaks OpenGL apps (e.g. doom 3)?
I've got a Sony VAIO with GeForce 7400Go. Doom 3 and my OpenGL programs run
fine before Vista SP1 and crash at startup after SP1 update. I notice the
nvidia driver installed is 2006/12/19, version 7.15.10.9754. Sony does not
have any new driver on its website and Nvidia does not provide drivers for
laptops. I'd like to know which is culprit of the break of my opengl apps,
Vista SP1 or nvidia driver?

The nVidia driver is the culprit.

Thanks, Shane,

Since Sony does not have any new driver on its website and Nvidia does not
provide drivers for laptops, is it OK to install desktop driver on my laptop?

Try it. But you might also want to look on Windows Update too, there may be
a newer driver there which will do the job.

If there's no luck with the nVidia driver try one of the hacked drivers from

Thanks, Paul.

I have tried the nvidia desktop video driver (175.19) and this driver
refused to install on my system.
What do you mean to *look* on Windows Update? Since I have turnd on Windows
update in control panel, I hope Vista will fetch and install everything
automatically.

If you have a look on the laptopvideo2go website, there's additional ini
files that can be downloaded so the drivers will install on laptop parts
etc.

It won't install drivers or other updates which are flagged as optional,
only critical or recommended updates get installed automatically.

Just go to Windows Update, if there's anything on there there will be a link
for view available updates.

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

These guys take the latest nVidia drivers and compile them into one file
that runs with all notebooks and desktop nVidia cards regardless of
age/type.

Link you want is on the right side, it'll say Vista 32bit

No, it is NOT ok to install the desktop driver on your notebook, but the
nVidia desktop driver is smart enough to not let you install the wrong
driver, so feel free to try, but the one I suggested above is easy enough.
