Help!!! Problems with Everquest I and Windows Vista
My hubby plays Everquest and he just got a new PC that has the dreaded
Windows Vista. The problem that he is having is that every time he zones he
gets kicked back to character select. I am tired of hearing about it and
have resorted to this just so he can shut up. Any suggestions????

Re: Help!!! Problems with Everquest I and Windows Vista
1) Get the latest Vista video card drivers for card. nVidia has had driver
problems.
2) Set comptability mode for the program to Windows XP SP 2. Right click on
the program exe file and set the comptability mode.
3) Some older programs need to be run as administrator to work properly.
Right click and pick run as administrator from the menu.
4) Get the latest Direct X9 runtime libary from the MS download center.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
5) There is also a program compatability update on the MS website.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

I hope this info will help you out, and I have found the "dreaded Vista"
works just fine. There are some issuses but there always is with a new OS.

Re: Help!!! Problems with Everquest I and Windows Vista
"Dreaded Vista" works great here with EQ1, don't know why people insist that
Vista is so bad. Granted it's got some issues, but it's not like this is the
Windows XP or Windows 98 Launches which were just god awful. I mean trying
to get DOS games to run under Windows 98 with the first PCI audio cards?
haha!

People today have it so easy. if you want easier, get a mac! I think there's
a Mac-EQ, but unfortunatly you'd have to start on another server.

(I only rant because your question has already been answered)

Oh, if you're in the game, but are only crashing during zoning that could be
EQ, might want to wait for a patch or check the eqplayers.com forums, see if
someones having a similar problem. Reset all your graphic settings to
default (though I am guessing that may worsen the problem. I seem to
remember EQ choose some messed up graphic settings by default when I first
installed the game from the Titanium CDs). Check your Audio settings, you
know the SAME thing your hubby goes through every time SoE releases a major
update.

Good luck.
