Compatibility Issues With Call Of Duty @

Dear vista heads i am having a problem running the game call of duty 2 on windows vista premium my OS version because i am getting an error that reads and i quote "DirectX(R) encountered an unrecoverable error".Is there anything at all you can do to solve it or even get around around for the game to run i would really appreciate it if you all can get back to me ass soon as possible thank you.

no problems here with it. running a core 2 duo and 8500gt card, had problems
with old 7600gt apg card but not with newer system.

Download newest video card drivers.
Download newest audio card drivers.
Download DirectX update files from http://www.microsoft.com/directx
Get PunkBuster update files from http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?
page=pbsetup.php

Try game again.

Dear Andy well basically i have a sony vaio laptop model number VGN-NR120E series with an intel pentium Dual-Core Inside processor CPU T2310 @ 1.46Ghz 1.47Ghz,2038 MB Of RAM,32-Bit Operating System,Mobile Intel (R) 965 Express Chipset Family,Mobile Intel(R) GMA X3100,Total Available Graphics Memory is 358 MB,my paging files is Total 4055MB for all paging files,Windows Vista Premium Operating System.Other games that are installed is Call Of Duty I and Hitman Contracts.By the way i would just like to add that the Call Of Duty I is running fine with no problems so why is Call Of Duty II giving problems and i have the latest Direct X which version 10 and latest drivers because i only have my laptop about 4 months now and has the latest stuff on it.So please tell me what i can do to get Call Of Duty II to run thank you very much.Oh yea have a 160 Gig harddrive as well for further referencing.

In particular posts 5 and 7.

Although DirectX 10 is mostly compatible with previous versions there
are a few older games that require the original DirectX9 files too.

You can install DirectX9 from here.....http://tinyurl.com/7flmz

Don't worry it won't overwrite version 10 - it'll just add a few new
files so that your pc is fully DirectX9 compatible.

Excellent post Ross! 2 Kudos for you. (haha, ok this isn't MySpace)

Well first off, you have DirectX 10 with Vista, but your video card is
not DirectX 10 compatible, but with Call of Duty 2 that shouldn't
matter, game only runs at DirectX 9.

Why is your graphics memory so high? It's not too powerful a video card
and the more memory you give to your video card just takes away from
your system RAM. If you know how, lower your video ram to 256meg or even
128meg I don't think you'll notice a difference.

Crud, I don't have your original post, I honestly forget what you were
having problems with.

Oh, Lee just posted you need to install DirectX 9, well you can download
it, or you can go to your game CD, open it up, and look for a DirectX or
DXSETUP folder. Run DXSETUP.EXE and it'll check to make sure your
DirectX files are OK. No need to download.

If you have other games running then that may be all you need.
otherwise, go to intel.com and find drivers for the Intel 965 Express
notebook chipset and the Intel x3100 video card. Install their latest
and that should help as well.
