my games worked on xp but not vista

i bought two games for a total of about 100 dollars/1000 sek but when i tried
to launch them it came up a dialog that said the "game has stopped working
windows will try to find a soulution to this problem"(excuse my bad english)
and then the soulution comes and it sais that i should download a newer
verision. And when i do that i tried to replace the old file with the new
one. That works, and then when i try to start it up the same thing happens
again. What should i do?
I'm running windows vista home basic by the way.

Which games? And did the "Problems and Solutions" screen provide a web
address to which you could go for the updates?
