User-Mapped Section Open?

I have a lot of gigs of music/video/pictures that I backed up on to an
external USB drive before installing Vista. Now that Vista is installed I am
trying to copy all of these files back...Every few seconds I get an error
popping up that says:

"Error Code 0x800704C8:
The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped
section open"

I can check the box to "Do this for all current items" and hit try again.
It repeats a few times and finally works. This is happening every 5-10
seconds and makes moving 6000+ files VERY tedious. Any insight?

Some programs open files as if they are swap files. It quicker to read/write
and windows paging system looks after all the reading and writing (so the
programmer doesn't have to). This is especially suited to large files.
At a guess something is opening the files and a bit slow at times to close
them. Perhaps preview, virus checking, indexing?
