Documents & Pictures Folders Missing

Help! This one has me stumped, even after reading through all previous
posts. The pictures and documents folder links have completely
disappeared from the users\username folder -- they're just not there any
more.

The documents and pictures themselves are safe, on f:\my documents and
f:\my pictures
, repsectively, but i can't for the life of me get Explorer to
recognize that fact. I have tried regedit in the
currentuser_software_microsofT_windows_currentvers ion_explorer_shellfolders
key - both Documents and My Pictures are listed there appropriately. But
they don't show up in the shell.

Any thoughts?

Just to be clear, are you talking about the folders called "MY" Documents
and "MY" Pictures?

These folders are now called simply Documents and Pictures in Vista. The
"My" designation has been retired in Vista. If you select the option to show
hidden files and folders, you will still see a My Documents and a My
Pictures in the user folder tree, but these are not actual folders. They are
called Junctions and are only there for legacy programs. What they do is
re-direct any legacy programs to the new location for these folders in
Vista.
