Slow windows explorer

Slow windows explorer

I open a file in my public directory. This is on the C drive on my local
Vista Premium 64 machine. The green bar slowly fills the folder address
section then the folder can be used. But this took 80 or 90 seconds. This
is intermittent behavior. I'm not searching or anything just opening the
folder.
Any idea why this would happen?
