Vista Backup does not backup prefs.js (and what else ?)

I've recently had a rather disturbing experience with Vista Backup.

I recently had to restore my D: (data) drive from a full file backup.
The backup was only a day old, so no data should have been missing.

The restore seemed to work fine, however when I started Thunderbird it
acted like the profile was empty. After some investigating it became
apparent that the prefs.js file that preferences are stored in only
contained basic data (that data that had been created when Thunderbird
started).

Looking at the backup set the file prefs.js was missing. I checked the
profile from Firefox and it was missing from there was well.

It appears that somehow when selecting files for backup Vista backup
sees these files as "Internet" files I guess and chooses not to back
them up.

I'm not requesting any assistance with this, just writing it so others
may be warned - you may wish to check your backup sets to see if they
suffer the same problem.

Hey racmod,

I had similar disturbing results with Backup, that forced me away from
it totally.

I have moved to just using WinRAR for backup, and automating it through
Task Scheduler. This works fine for me. I can check up on what is and
isn't being backed up (no restrictions on the files as with Windows
Backup), and can control it down to the file level if I want.

I attach the backup schedule task, just in case anyone is interested.
Delete the .txt to view it in an .xml reader or look at it in Task
Scheduler. Of course, one would have to alter it to one's particular
requirements for it to be useful.
