Thanks for your reply .. had a quick look at Agent Ransack and it looks like this will do the trick. As for your tip about indexing ... thanks , but I have tried it ... and many other options.
The point is that the Vista search is simply unreliable. Sometimes it works and sometimes not ... even on the SAME directory with the same arguments. I need something that is simple to trigger and that I KNOW will work every time!

Thanks for this my friend ... but I have been tried all the search options in every possible combination many times. Apart from being irritatingly unintuitive and appallingly slow Vista seach simply does not work reliably ... or at all sometimes!! I can prove it! But I know it anyway from the many comments on this and other newsgroups. The reason I asked for a 3rd party tool is that when I am working fast I need a reliable search tool which works. I don't want to spend hours ploughing through newsgroups to find solutions to this sort of basic functionality!
