Explorer copy action estimates free space on wrong drive. (Bug)
Hello, I found a silly bug in Vista explorer. It happens in special
condition. To check, you need two partitions on your hard drive.

1. Vista OS partition (C, must be smaller than 2nd partition, example 50
GB, for example with 30 Gb free space
2. Data partition (D, must be bigger than 1st partition, example: 200 GB

Additionally you need a large amount of any type of files accessible via a
2nd harddisk, network, etc. It must contain more files than the free space on
c:. For example you need

Do it like this: Open your drive D:, makle a folder, call it "my documents"
or what ever. Open that folder, make a folder "Music", "Documents",
"Pictures", etc.

Then on your desktop: Double click on the folder with your user name (that
one which used to be the "My Documents" folder in XP. Inside the folder
select the subfolders "Music", Documents", etc, one after the other with
right mouse button, select properties, select the tab with the location of
the folder, select move, select as path the corresponding folders in d:\my
documents\. Do now you have moved these folders from c: to d:.

Now you are ready to see the bug:

Open the folder with your name on the desktop (my documents), (but not d:\my
documents!!!).

Open the additional (network) drive, select a large number of files there,
their total size must be bigger than the free space on c:. Drag them on the
Documents, Pictures, Music folder, as you want to copy them to this location.

Explorer now starts to examine the source files, count their size, etc.
After a while it will say you that on your target drive is not enough space.
The space available it tells, in reality is the space what is free on c:, but
not on d:

Example:

c: is 50 GB in total, free space is 30 GB
d: is 200 GB in total, and almost empty

Select 70 GB from the network drive, drag it on desktop/username/documents
(or music, pictures, etc.).

Explorer counts the files to copy, when it reaches counting 30 GB, it will
popup with message that not enough space is left on the target. Explorer
compared to c: and not to d:, where is still enough space.

When copying the files directly to d:\my
documents\[documents|music|pictures] then no problem.
