I forgot my password and now I can't log on to my computer

I misplaced my log-on password and now I can't access my computer. I don't
have the option of reinstalling my windows xp software because I need the
information in the computer. I down loaded a password re-set program but when
I boot the computer it doesn;t come on to allow me to reset my password. I
really need help...

You can try logging on to the Administrator account. Restart your computer
and press F8 before it boots up windows. If you hit it at the right time,
(after the hardware loads, it will show disk space, memory etc.) it will show
a list of booting options. Select Safe Mode, then hopefully you will be able
to log in to the administrator account and reset your password.

Do you have a Vista installation DVD?

If you do, go to the following website and follow the instructions in Option
2. This allow you to enable the Built-in Administrator account on the
Welcome screen. You can use this account to change or delete the password to
the other account.

What do I do: I can no longer log in or elevate to an administrator account:

After you get everything fixed, go to Start and type: cmd.exe Right
click the cmd.exe file and select the Run As Administrator option. In the
command window, type the following:

net user administrator /active:no

And press Enter.

This will hgide the built-in administrator account for safe keeping.

Spenceation

This doesn't work with Vista. Unlike Windows XP, the hidden, Built-in
Administrator account will not appear in Safe Mode unless there is no other
administrator accounts configured on the system. This also applies even if
there is another administrator account that has been intentionally hidden by
a user.
