lost password/can't reboot from recovery cd or in safe mode

Son has a Toshiba laptop..he changed the password and forgot..on suggestion
of someone who knows more than me i tried a program called
password-changer..used an iso cd and booted off cd.. got into system and to
the point of fixing things when program told me that demo version wouldnt do
repair..i then tried to just use recovery cd and start anew but now i cant
boot off a cd or go to safe mode without going to a screen that looks
dos-like...black with a blue box asking me to Enter Password (which i don't
have)...any help out here???
