How do I create a deployement package

I'm just getting started with Forefront and I've been using the
management console user guide to get me started. I'm at the point
where I want to test some client deployments, but the user guide
doesn't seem to tell me how I go about creating a deployment package.
It says to browse the the setup.exe, but when I choose the client
setup exe file on the CD I get an error that says it is not a package
file. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

I guess you're talking about FCS?
You should deploy clients by using Group Policy and WSUS:
