Error 0x80242006

When trying to install update KB934238 on my WinXP computer, I always receive
the following error message: Update was not installed, error 0x80242006.
According to WUpdate it's a critical update but don't know how to install it.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

Hi jmw1160

If you're running an english version of WindowsXP, you don't need
this patch.

If you are running a non-english version of WindowsXP, have a
look at this : http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=934238
You must install prior to this KB934238 patch the correct
language pack for .Net Framework 3.0 here :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
Be sure to select your language first in the "Change language"
field, next hit the "change" button.

If you modified or updated HP software or asked any help from HP online
support they creating this sort of problem and its simply to do with HP the
only people who knows how to solve this problem is HP software support team
probably they do this because they want you to call their premium number!

I just fixed this with the help of a german countryman IT-freak. You need to
empty the SoftwareDistribution folder before reattempting an update. This is
how:

Open the command window by entering "cmd" in the windows>start>command line.
In the window popup, behind the prompt enter "net stop wuauserv" to stop
automatic updating features. Messages will appear confirming this.
Then (if you like, exit the command window by entering "exit" and then
open the windows folder, look for and empty (or delete) the folder
"SoftwareDistribution". Don't worry, it reinstalls itself with "cleaned
contents".
Next go back to (or restart) the command window and enter "net start
wuauserv" to restart updating features. Messages will appear confirming this.
Then behind the prompt enter
"wuauclt/resetauthorization/detectnowwuauclt/detectnow". No additional
message will appear this time. Exit the command window by entering "exit".
Now the windows update or microsoft update will be completed successfully.
