Download won't start

Hello:

I'm running Windows Vista on a laptop. When I run Windows Update, the
utility states that I need 46 updates. However, the download never starts.
The screen just sits at "Downloading 46 updates (0 KB total / 0% complete)."

Does anyone have any thoughts on what I might try? I've tried turning off
my firewall and that did not make a difference.

Is anyone going to respond to this one, i have a similar issue, although mine
is not a laptop - but i do have Vista (full version) and i have heaps of
updates to run - especially service pack, and it wont download
