microsoft updates fail

I had this problem months ago, and had a computer problem that took time to
re-fix. My microsoft windows update will not complete installation, they
fail. There are 82 of them sitting in there for a month, and I have
downloaded some of or most of the updates from the update catalog just from
writing down the update code and download it there. Yet the update searches
and says I still need to update them, and it continues to fail. I don't know
if I have all the latest, or if they are being downlloaded more than once. I
have found duplicates.
Help again???

I have the exact same problem. I suspect a virus but have been unable to find
anything. I would like to know how to force the updates to install at boot
time, or something.

I finally found that there is issues with the server if you have windows xp.
I tried to fix via help and support, and did what it said. There is also
issues with different update programs, I followed the start run and
regedit, and when to the registry and changed the administrators value
databox from the one, and changed it to zero. If you have more than one
administrator also it gets confused and supposedly it will download on a
guest account. I finally wrote down all the updates....kb_____ and
downloaded them in the update catalog one by one, but they are done now.
