IE 7 signing into https sites

Brand new, out of the box.

Problem has been present since the 1st day of use.

Prior to attempting to access desired site, Windows updates were applied.
Windows Update Agent 7.4.7600.226
Hotfix for Windows KB95470
Update for Windows KB755430
Hotfix for Windows KB948278

IE7, McAfee [ paid subscription ]
Security Center 9.15
Virus Scan 13.15
FW 10.15
McAfee has been activated

IE will display https://<desired web site log in >, but after I enter the correct user name & P/W, IE spontaneously closes.

However & unfortunately, this is not consistent with https log in sites.
For example, I can to to https://www.<financial institution >, enter user name & password, & have complete access to my account.

Actions taken, all of which have failed. Silly me.
Start IE in IE's safe mode
Boot to Windows SM with networking
Disable UAC
Disable IE's Protected mode
Add https://<desired web site > to IE's trusted sites
Used ATF Cleaner, Welcome to the Frontpage - www.atribune.org , to clear cache.
Verified that the date & time are correct.

I have not performed steps to reset IE's settings.
How to reset Internet Explorer settings
Will IE's add ons be re -added?

Pop Up Blocker.

Who knew?

I tried to connect on a different Vista box running IE7. Success.
