IE8 Fails

Lately I've been getting failures where IE8 shut down or I get a message
saying there's a problem. I downloaded IE8 to re-insatll but a message says
I have a later version already installed. (I'm running Vista Home
EditionVersion 6 Build 6002 and IE8Version 8.0.6001.18882) How do I get rid
of the failures? How do I re-install IE8?

Since we're not mind readers you'll have to describe your "failures" in
detail, with examples, if you want specific help.

For now:

Do you have the same experience when you start Internet Explorer from
the 'no add-ons' icon?

Start > type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box > click Internet
Explorer (No Add-Ons)

Do you have the same experience after you have reset Internet Explorer
settings?

See what happens when you run IE8 in its no add-ons mode.

I gave up. I set et windows update so I can manually delete the IE update,
but can still install all the others. When Windows update was set to
automatic, my system constantly froze up. Now I use Opera or Firefox. One
or the other will get me everywhere I want to go. And the freezes have
stopped.
