IE8 - vista?

OK, twice now I have downloaded IE8. Loading happens, system restart, then
when I click on the Explorer icon, the window starts to open with a big white
screen in it, then instantly closes. Again, and again this happens, forcing
me to do a system restore each time. So I guess my question is: what the f?

When you start Internet Explorer, it opens, flashes, and then closes
immediately:
