IE8 loses download when closing main window

hi,

When i download something and i close the tab of the download place the
download stops and disappears.

I tried reinstalling ie8 but it still is not working.

Any ideas ?
(this is a newly installed windows xp pro so it did not work from the
beginning)

Wait until the download has completed and has been saved to your hard disk.
