IE 8 will not start

Hi group!

Setup: Windows XP Pro SP3
CPU 2GHZ
2 GIG Ram

I've installed IE8 multiple times and the problem remains.

Once the installation is complete (rebooting and all) I try to start IE8 but
all I get ia flash of my screen and no IE.
I've checked with Process XP and I see the IE process start and die within a
second. The process turns red and goes out.

I've reseted the options in the control panel to no avail.
