using ie8 does not show debugging tools clicking key f12

hi,

using ie8 on windows vista 64bit does not show debugging tools clicking key
f12. when clicking 'alt-tab' one can see an arrow symbolizing ie, however the
"normal" symbol for ie is not showing up.

what is wrong here?

FWIW I think it may depend on which page you are trying it on.
E.g. on the forums I think the ActiveX control which supports keyboard
shortcuts and other interceptions may not alllow F12 to be entered.

i am especially talking about my website, i am currently creating on my
desktop (not published); not using any active x-controls. f12 worked until
yesterday like a charme; now it does not anymore for either website i am
using it.

any other ideas?
