Red X in organize favorites, IE8
When I go to organize favorites, the folder view is a red x. I had this
problem in IE6, and still have it now in IE8.
I've run
regsvr32.exe /i ieframe.dll (gets an error)
The following reg stuff from the redx mvp website:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{55136805-B2DE-11D1-B9F2-00A0C98BC547}]

Plus I did all the IE6 stuff when I had IE6.
So, any ideas?
Thanks,

Re: Red X in organize favorites, IE8
Sounds like, if you had it with IE6, perhaps it is a leftover problem.
Uninstall and reinstall or Repair. Maybe backup your Favorites and then
delete them all and put them all back...
Sorry, I'm not seeing this behavior...

Thanks for the reply.
It's a problem many other people have also. And they also say the fixes
on the net don't work.
I'll describe other things I think may be significant.
************************************************** *********
A. One other thing it does is throw an error window when I press any of
the buttons in the organize favorites window.
The message is:
An error has occurred in this dialog
Error 55
Object does not suport this property or method.
************************************************** *********
B. In reading stuff at http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/redxorg.htm it
seems there is something called shell name space which does not exist on
my add-ons menu. I only see the following add-ons from Microsoft:
Name XML DOM Document
Name XML Document
Name Windows Desktop Search Combo Control
Name Windows Media Player
Name XML DOM Document 4.0
Name XML DOM Document 6.0
Name Free Threaded XML DOM Document 6.0
Name XSL Template 6.0
Name XML HTTP 6.0
Name SearchAssistantOC
Name Free Threaded XML DOM Document
How do I get the shell name space add-on to appear?
************************************************** ***
C: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922373
When I run regsvr32 /i shdocvm.dll it says the module cannot be found

Thanks,

Re: Red X in organize favorites, IE8
Reference:
Organize Favorites dialog in Internet Explorer displays a "Red X" mark
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/ie/redxorg.htm
Are you running WinXP SP2 or SP3?
> I had this problem in IE6, and still have it now in IE8.
Upgrading hopes of fixing an existing problem is seldom a wise idea.
Does the behavior persist in another User Account or a brand-new one?

Be grateful for that article's typo. The suggestion really only applies
to IE6 users.
However, if you want more of the same, including that command
(but with a repair of its effects when IE7 or IE8 are involved) try:

I went ahead and ran it. It did not fix the red X in the IE8 organize
favorites window.
