IE Tabs

I'm trying Internet Explorer 8 for the second time. This time, I cannot get
the tab function to work. Does anyone know how to fix this (other than
downgrading to IE 7 or going to FireFox)? Thanks

In Internet options> General> Tabs> Settings, is "Enable tabbed browsing"
checked?
