Why does Help -> About still show version 7?

I've updated my laptop with the latest Microsoft updates including IE8, but
when I go to Help -> About in IE8, I still see the version number listed as
7.0.5730.13? Also, I know that it's IE8 since I am able to see the new
features that were introduced in IE8 when I open the browser.

I was wondering about this because I came across an issue with IE8 wherein
it is somehow not able to open new windows (sometimes throws a "Do you wish
to debug this Javascript?" message), which is a big issue when it comes to
using things like Microsoft CRM. So, I'm not really sure whether the
Microsoft updates have really updated the latest internal libraries to
version 8.0?

Has anyone else faced this issue?

You did not tell us your OS version and service pack level.

It sounds like you have a hawked IE8 install. Have you re-booted since
installing IE8?

Depending upon your OS version and SP level your computer may require up to
three reboots to complete the IE8 update.
