Bug in IE8 - toolbar not painting properly

Internet Explorer: 8.0.6001.18702

Much of the toolbar at the top of the IE window is not being painted
properly. The background is black, and there is clutter all over it. The text
is mostly legible. This is on a clean install of Windows XP, on a dell PC.

Doesn't happen every time the application is started. I see nothing in the
bug database quoting "paint".

I have had the same problem with theme "Windows Classic" (= Windows NT
Look & Feel, see Display Properties). The solution was to stop and
disable the service "Themes". I discovered no side effect of this.

Thanks for the tip. Have you tried this? Are you running Stardoc's Windows
Blinds? I expect that your solution will not work when WB is installed and
the machine is re-booted and the Theme services re-start.

I work with this solution since some weeks without any (!) problems.
Sorry, I have no information about how this solution works with Windows
Blinds, but it's probably without any risk to stop the Themes service
temporary. If you are satisfied with this solution change the start type
of the Themes service (menu entry Properties) from automatic to manual
and things doesn't change after rebooting the system.
