Can't download any files since installing IE8

Why can't I download any files from either my e-mail or game websites? When
the download starts, it gets to 99% then stops and freezes my page. I really
need to be able to download files since I am starting college in two days.
Please help me to fix this problem ASAP.

Which version of Windows? (Including SP level- SP1,SP2,etc.)

1. Clear the Temporary Internet Files

2. Start Internet Explorer without add-ons from:
Right-click the IE icon on the desktop. Choose Start without add-ons.
or
Programs> Accessories> System tools> Internet Explorer (no add-ons)
If the problem goes away, you have an incompatible browser add-on installed.

3. If the problem is not caused by an add-on, look for a third-party program
(antivirus, security suite, firewall)
as the cause.

You may have to uninstall some programs, instead of merely disabling the
program, to diagnose and resolve this.
Removing McAfee may require a removal tool

Removing Norton/Symantec products completely will require the removal tool

Zone Alarm may have to be uninstalled, instead of being disabled.

4. Third-party antivirus/antispyware programs should be disabled when
installing Internet Explorer. If they weren't you may have a corrupted
installation of IE8. Reinstalling with these programs disabled may be the
solution.
