Yes: If you are dual- or multi-booting Windows; or if you are running
extra copies of Windows in a virtual environment.

The latter makes more sense for testing code.

You may use VmWare Thinapp to create a "portable versions" of IE7 and IE8.
These portable versions may be used simultaneously.

Hi,
You can install Microsoft Virtual PC (free) and several VPC Images of IE6,
IE7, IE8 on XP and Vista. These are large downloads and there's a learning
curve.
