Favorites crashes

Since installing IE8, every time I open the browser and go to the favorites
for the first time, none of the favorites will respond. I have to left click
on a favorite, then the browser stops responding, then either the favorites
will disappear or sometimes the whole browser disappears, then it returns and
everything works fine. Any suggestions for this? I'm running XP sp3.
