IE7 will not show up or run

I installed IE7 and restarted as directed. Upon restart, there is no IE7
icon - IE7 is not even shown in the list of programs. When I go to explore
to see if it installed, I see IE7 among the other program files. I thought I
might try to start it from there and copy the start icon to the desktop, but
I don't know which one to look for. My operating system is Windows XP.

Starting with IE 7, Internet Explorer no longer places an icon on the
desktop.

To place a shortcut to Internet Explorer on your desktop, right-click on
the desktop and select New > Shortcut.

In the 'Type the location of the item' box type:

"%programfiles%\internet explorer\iexplore.exe"

and click Next. (Be sure to include the quotes.) Call the shortcut
Internet Explorer and click Finish.
