RE: IE cannot display web page
I did some more googling and found the answer.
I had removed Norton (my subscription had run out), using control panel.
All seemed to go well, no problems reported.
Shortly after I upgraded to IE8 I started sometimes getting the "...cannot
display website", message, sometimes, but not consistantly.
Finally, a week ago, it became the standard answer to requesting a webpage.
Turns out you have to go to the Norton website an use THEIR removal tool, ..
or a number of items of code are left in your registry.
This was the problem.
I downloaded and ran the Norton_Removal_Tool, rebooted, ...
Yea! All is fixed.
Pages now open without problems.
